Kate Dalman, Founder
With a deep commitment to raising the standard of breeding practices, Kate Dalman founded Herzog’s Heroes to bring lasting, systemic change to the world of canine welfare. Her leadership has shaped the organization’s vision, sparked statewide advocacy efforts, and established a foundation for breeder education and accountability. She currently serves as Acting President, with plans to transition into the Executive Director role as the board continues to grow and a permanent President is appointed.

Mary Lanckhoff
President
Mary brings impactful leadership shaped by her distinguished background in the pharmaceutical industry, project management, and corporate structuring. As President of Herzog’s Heroes, she applies her strategic insight, organizational expertise, and results-driven approach to guide the organization’s growth with focus and integrity. Her ability to translate complex ideas into actionable plans continues to strengthen our foundation and inspire confidence in our mission.
Montana Hayes
Secretary
Montana Hayes, owner of Big Sky Dog Training, has been rescuing and training dogs and horses for over 35 years. She is an accomplished trainer specializing in reward-based training techniques, behavior modification, and a puppy head-start program that helps owners raise well-behaved, confident dogs. Montana regularly attends continuing education programs to stay at the forefront of humane and effective training practices. Her experience brings a hands-on perspective to Herzog’s Heroes’ breeder education and shelter prevention efforts.
Eileen Beaulieu
Treasurer
Eileen serves as Treasurer of Herzog’s Heroes, bringing a strong background in leadership and management to the organization. Her ability to blend strategic oversight with practical problem-solving ensures sound financial stewardship and organizational stability. Eileen’s commitment to accountability and structure strengthens our operations, helping to guide Herzog’s Heroes toward sustainable growth and long-term impact.
Heidi Weger
Board Member
With an extensive background in shelter medicine, Heidi brings invaluable insight into the challenges and opportunities within animal welfare. Her experience working on the front lines of shelter care has fueled her passion for bridging the gap between breeders and veterinarians to improve outcomes for dogs everywhere. As a member of the Herzog’s Heroes Board of Directors, Heidi plays a vital role in advancing collaborative solutions that elevate breeding standards, promote canine health, and strengthen trust across the entire dog community.
Dan Beaulieu
Board Member
Dan serves on the Herzog’s Heroes Board of Directors and leads the organization’s technological development as Chief Technology Officer. With an extensive background as a senior software architect, he brings visionary leadership and technical expertise to our mission. Dan is instrumental in building the digital infrastructure that supports our long-term goals, driving innovation and ensuring our technology aligns with our values of transparency, accountability, and impact.
Role Descriptions
President
We’re looking for a visionary leader who can take Mary’s place when she steps down to help guide Herzog’s Heroes into its next phase of growth. The ideal President will bring strong leadership skills, nonprofit or strategic experience, and a deep commitment to systemic change in canine welfare. This person will work closely with the Executive Director and board to ensure oversight, accountability, and alignment with our long-term mission.
Secretary
Our future Secretary will play a key role in ensuring strong board operations when Montana steps down. We’re looking for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about our mission. This role involves maintaining accurate records, supporting board communications, and helping ensure transparency and documentation as we grow.
Treasurer
The future Treasurer will help guide the financial health and integrity of Herzog’s Heroes after Eileen steps down. Ideal candidates have experience in financial oversight, bookkeeping, or nonprofit budgeting. You don’t have to be a CPA — just someone with sound judgment, a love for spreadsheets, and a strong sense of fiscal responsibility.

Serving on the Herzog’s Heroes Board of Directors is a rewarding opportunity to help lead meaningful, lasting change in the world of canine welfare. As a working board in a growth phase, we’re seeking hands-on leaders who are ready to engage, collaborate, and help shape the future of our organization.
Mission Alignment
Embrace our focus on preventing shelter overpopulation through breeder education, regulation, and public awareness.

Time Commitment
Board Meetings: Attend bi-monthly meetings (every other month) via Zoom or in person. Meetings are focused, strategic, and scheduled in advance.
Committee Leadership: Chair or actively participate in at least one committee (e.g., fundraising, outreach, education, advocacy, governance).
Special Projects or Events: Support or advise on key events, campaigns, or initiatives that align with your skills and availability.
Financial Contribution
We ask all board members to make a personally meaningful financial donation each year. There is no minimum, but we aim for 100% participation to demonstrate commitment and strengthen grant eligibility.
Ambassadorship
Actively represent Herzog’s Heroes in your network and community.
Help build relationships that support fundraising, outreach, partnerships, or program growth.
Share and amplify our campaigns and initiatives to help expand awareness.
